Large university lecture halls and academic spaces frequently grapple with poor vocal clarity caused by expansive physical volumes and hard surface reverberation. High ceilings, exposed mechanical ductwork, and wide floor areas reflect mid-to-high frequency sound waves, leading to persistent echo flutter and excessive background noise. This muddying of acoustics compromises professor speech intelligibility and creates listening fatigue for students seated across long distances.

Engineered Solution & Design

To deliver targeted vocal attenuation while leaving structural building services accessible, the overhead void was outfitted with a linear suspended PET acoustic baffle array. Formed from lightweight 9mm felt panels in neutral grey with vibrant yellow accents, the staggered vertical blades intercept upward sound reflections directly above collaborative study zones. Suspended via discrete steel aircraft cables below the open plenum, the modular ceiling grid seamlessly integrates cylindrical spot lighting and MEP pipes without restricting airflow or ceiling access.

Manufactured from eco-friendly, high-density recycled PET polyester fiber, this 9mm acoustic ceiling system delivers an exceptional sound absorption performance with an NRC rating exceeding 0.90. The porous structural felt effectively traps airborne reverberation, ensuring crisp speech transmission during lectures. Built to comply with institutional educational standards, the panels feature Class A fire-resistance certification, zero formaldehyde emissions, and long-term structural durability for high-traffic academic environments.
