Printed PET Acoustic Wall Panel for Library Reading Zones - Noise Reduction Solution

Project Context & Acoustic Challenge
Library reading zones and informal study nooks situated adjacent to busy corridors or glass-partitioned meeting rooms often struggle with ambient noise control. Unshielded ceramic floor tiles and plain painted walls reflect whispered conversations, foot traffic, and mechanical HVAC noise, disrupting quiet study focus and failing to cultivate an inviting, bio-inspired aesthetic.
Engineered Solution & Design
To eliminate acoustic reflection while introducing an uplifting environmental graphic, the reading alcove wall was lined with high-definition printed PET acoustic wall panels featuring vibrant desert cactus and tropical foliage artwork. Printed using eco-friendly, fade-resistant UV inks directly onto sound-absorbing felt, the continuous wall graphic transforms acoustic treatment into a lively botanical feature wall. Installed behind casual seating, the mural breaks up reflection paths from glossy floor tiles and surrounding glass partitions.
Performance & Compliance
Manufactured from high-density, 100% recyclable PET polyester felt, the acoustic panel system delivers an NRC 0.85 rating to absorb mid-frequency speech noise and reduce spatial echo. The flatbed UV digital printing process maintains the open-porous structure of the felt without compromising sound absorption or off-gassing. Certified for low-VOC indoor air quality and compliant with ASTM E84 Class A fire safety codes, the impact-resistant wall surface withstands high-traffic public use with minimal maintenance.
