Project Context & Acoustic Challenge

Back-to-back sit-stand benching systems in modern agile spaces often suffer from acoustic spillover and visual line-of-sight intrusion between facing users. Flat desk panels often lack the surface depth needed to fracture direct acoustic wave energy, allowing keystroke clatter and immediate conversational noise to bounce across the shared desktop divide and disrupt deep focus work.

Engineered Solution & Design

To deliver localized acoustic damping and privacy, the workstations were specified with central PET acoustic desk dividers featuring a thermoformed 3D geometric faceted pattern. The sculpted polygonal facets break up planar sound reflections while adding tactile depth in an olive-green felt tone. Each panel is mounted securely between the opposing desks with rounded safety corners, providing a dual-sided acoustic barrier that stays aligned as users independently adjust their desk heights.

Performance & Compliance

Hot-molded from high-density, flame-retardant (ASTM E84 Class A) PET polyester fibers, the rigid 3D faceted structure maintains structural integrity without sag or warping over prolonged use. The seamless debossed edge binding prevents fiber fraying during daily contact, achieving an NRC 0.85 noise reduction rating. Resistant to surface pilling and compliant with low-VOC indoor air safety standards, the non-porous felt surface allows simple dry-vacuum or spot-clean maintenance.
